Day 1 at Tufts wasn't bad at all. Met the staff, pretty cool people. The RD is really nice, and a definite poodle. Planned out some stuff for the kids, went okay. Went with the other RAs to pick up supplies at Target and that was a good time. I'm realizing more and more that I'm not nearly as shy as I used to think I was, which is cool. Let's hope that stays the same when interacting with the students when they get here. Matt is back, which makes me happy because I have a total nonsexual crush on him. In other words, I admire him as a person and want him to be my best friend. I'm gonna make sure to visit him at Yale next time I'm in New Haven, which will hopefully be when I'm 21 so I can finally have a beer with him lol. Ugh, lol, I just want him to like me. Met the other counselors, and both are cool people. One of them looks at me a lot, but that might be cause I look at her a lot, so it's kind of awkward cause I don't know what the cause of that is. The other is this guy that is pretty quiet, but he already came out as gay AND admitted to reading all four Twilight books, so that was fun. Should be a good time, with the staff at least. They all seem to like me too, and I get along very well with the RD, so that's good. I'm definitely her go to person, which I enjoy being, esp. since she's a poodle. We went on an adventure alone to Davis Square a bit ago, so that was fun.
I wish the kids weren't coming though, lol. It'd be way better if I just got paid to hangout and go out to eat with the staff all the time. Where can I find that job?
I'm gonna miss hanging out with people, but I'll have a lot more free time starting Monday, so that'll be nice.
Anyways, gotta get up at 6am to go to the airport to meet the abroad students, and will be there all day...meh.

Finally read about Obama's whole "benefits to same-sex spouses of Federal Employees". Tricky guy, people who don't read the fine print are all excited, as I originally was when I heard it through passing, but apparently the rights are very minimal, as the Defense against Marriage act from Clinton's days do not allow for things like health insurance benefits and important things like that, and until that is overturned, nothing is really gonna change. Oh, Obama, how I love you, but also how I love how much you've gone back on your word about many important things. I do agree that there are way more important issues to be dealing with other than all the gay rights stuff, and that's fine and well, but it's ridiculous trying to use this small federal emplyee benefits thing to please rich advocates who are suddenly turning against you. Just not cool. It is cool, however, that federal employees can no longer be dicriminated against based on gender identity. I do think that's pretty awesome. Though it makes me sad that I have to feel happy when gays and transgenders start to get some of the same rights everyone else has; sometimes I think that's the most upsetting thing about all this.
Anyways, im just ranting instead of packing for Tufts....I just wanted to take a minute for that, because I usually keep my mouth shut about all the gay rights crap because it's annoying to think about and it really doesn't affect me yet and blah blah, but that just really pissed me off. I mean, maybe it's just because I have a strong bias, but I do not understand any sort of counter argument that is completely secular and doesn't involve the "sanctity of marraige" bullshit, that is really just made up. I mean, marriage was an economical arrangement back in the day, so parents should be trading goats for their daughters if we want to have marriages that existed in God's image. Craziness. And I still don't understand Don't Ask Don't Tell, that's just flushing government money right down the toilet by the millions each year.
Whatever. Politics. I hate them because something is always broken, but I love them because something always needs to be fixed.
